If the mode is not supported by the console driver or the video card, ioctl will fail anyway. As video mode switching does not require any error recovery, vidcontrol will just print that it has failed to switch to the requested mode. That's simple, yet effective. You see, even on the AT platform, not all modes are always supported. (VESA defines extended modes, but it is up to the video card vender to decide which mode to support.) Kazu
