Your best bet is to read the information at the various web sites:
www.freebsd.org, www.openbsd.org and www.netbsd.org.
Each program is maintained by a different group, and the goals of the
projects are different. This makes for slight differences in the way
things are done and how the software functions, etc.
For the Sun box, you'll have to use either NetBSD or OpenBSD, as FreeBSD
only runs on Intel and Alpha hardware.
Unless you're doing something very esoteric, you shouldn't have a lick
of trouble networking the three together.
