Probably american people don't feel the need for it, but here in Europe,
for instance, almost every language needs non-ASCII characters (finnish,
swedish, french, italian, spanish, german, ...). Is the FreeBSD project
ditching the rest of the world?

My mistake; seems that I haven't checked the CVS repository for a while.
