It didn't read as a rant to me, but a note/reference which I think we
actually need to see a lot more of.

Please don't discourage these explanations/rationales in commit logs,
our commit log maturity level is low enough.

Certainly an issue report and/or patch would be the final
right-thing-to-do step to permanently close out the issue and make the
right people aware.
