AFAIK, we *don't*.  I think the FreeBSD notion of "slices" is what's 
created by the DOS partition table.  FreeBSD get's a "slice" of the disk 
(we call this the "NetBSD portion of the disk") and partitions it up.  

This is based on quick scans of the FreeBSD code ... I could be totally 
wrong.
