These type of errors are mostly an indication that there is a hardware
problem somewhere: cables, plugs, jacks, termination (too much, too few,
none at all, wrong interconnection or wrong terminators).

My only adventure with this type of error was that once i could reliably 
produce CRC errors when touching one of the ISDN plugs of a (bad) cable
while a connection was active ...
