Interesting approach. I assume you did this to make a merge less painful after an import, but did you consider that now you have to update all these diffs? Personally, I'd rather see the diffs applied to bring it off the vendor branch and so on, easier to track changes to them, and at least centralises your job when doing future imports of new versions.
