Hi,
I installed FBSD 3.1 -R, and when X started, there were a default window
manager called twm. It was only the greyish background and a few xterms.
Very sparse environment compared to others. I don't know much of twm, but there
should be a manual: 
$ man twm

But You can install the window manager You like. There are a lot of them.
I installed AfterStep, and I like it a lot.
