While I don't know what the problem here is, I have 2 machines that will not run 1742's in Enhanced mode reliably, but will work fine in standard mode till the end of time. Symptoms were various freezes and hangs with disk lights stuck on. I changed to standard mode, and voila', no problems for months now.
