We do have a OHCI low level driver for USB and if I am not mistaken FireWire uses OHCI as well. If that is the case, you might be able to grab sys/dev/ohci and modify that one to your taste. I've had a couple of e-mails from people wanting to work on it, but never heard anything from them again (ca. half a year ago).
