The 8 megs of RAM may be a bit too little (I'm quite sure you must have more than 12 megs to get through) TfH PS : if everything else fails, think of getting a full snapshot first to a local machine, and then install from this machine. Hans Weber <weber@mt.luth.se> on 22/02/2000 17:28:26 To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG cc: (bcc: Thierry HERBELOT/FR/ALCATEL) Subject: installing_problem_486DX4-S Dear Sirs I have very odd problem installing 3.4 release. The machine: 486DX DX4-S 100MHz 8Mb mem and 852Mb disk It has an 3C509b (ep0) card running with PnP disabled. (we have also tried D-link card). Installation progresses fine we choose to install over ftp we have chosen various locations. It starts to make a new file system and it contacts the ftp site of our choice and starts to fetch the /bin dir it gets a few Kb and then it comes to a complete stop. It says something like .... bytes 1 chunk of 110 @ 1.5 Kb/s and nothing more (the 1.5 Kb/s depends on our choice of ftp location) We do not get any clues from going to scroll mode or moving to Alt F2, nothing alarming here. I have also installed 2 other 3.4 releases last week on modern Pentiums using the same gateway, IP and DNS so I know they work. Does anyone have any clues? I have exhausted my fantasy.
