I converted an old computer laying around into just want you are asking
about.  Two nics in the FreeBSD box, one connects to the DSL modem and
the other to my switch.  Uses IPFW to filter out traffic that I don't
want on my network.  Had an uptime of six months until I took the box
down to give the inside a cleaning and inspect all of the cooling fans
and such.
