Do you have any ISA type ethernet cards? Read Handbook's section 30.3.6: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/network-nfs.html I actually had this kind of trouble once, and it was due to an ISA network card. I doubt you are really using an ISA card in a production system, but some of the remedies described in the section may give you a hint of what is going on.
