Whether they can handle the load of 5,000 average users is not a question. Both have high emphasis on security and reliability. Postfix changes more often and has more emphasis on the feature-of-the-week. But then again, Postfix changes more often and has more emphasis on the feature-of-the-week. Both are quite capable. It comes down to a matter of personal taste, and I recommend that you play with both, though I'd venture that you might have to spend a good deal of time with either system to really understand why people like it so much.
