After the second disk was fed, it gave similiar output and I never did find out why. That was why I subscribed to this listserve. I am using an old Adaptec 1542B for those interested and only use SCSI in my system (three of them, two inside, one external). I gave up and went to Red Hat 6.1 which worked perfectly and has not failed me in that respect. When the boot disk does not successfully boot, I considered that a bad omen and time to find an OS that would correctly do so. I did try a few things and the results were always the same. RH on the other hand has never failed (in that manner, I have had a few other strange experiences, it took a week to get my PAS16 sound card running for example, but it is - just poor to terrible (non-existant) documentation was part of that problem and the other was the lp interface, same problem, it did not auto install it and the docs were poor to non-existant). Sorry this does not help -- but I thought the card (due to it's age and reputation to be "the card" of preference for Unix systems (at one time)) may be of some significant help.
