It is a dual boot machine (why I sent this message from windows - FBSD isn't hooking up to the network!) I have included the following information in this e-mail, hoping to find direction in looking for a solution. I am using 4.2 Release on a Sony VIAO PCG-748 laptop (Pentium 266MHz), and trying to get a Lucent Technologies WaveLAN gold 802.11 wireless network PCMCIA card running. It never has allowed me to connect to the network. The output of `uname -a` is "FreeBSD vette.orem1.northsky.com 4.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.2-RELEASE #0: Mon Nov 20 13:02:55 GMT 2000 jkh@bento.FreeBSD.org:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC i386" In defaults/rc.conf, I have pccard_ifconfig="NO". Will this prevent me from setting up the card? If so, can I set it to "YES", or is there something special I need to do? One thing I realized, is I set my io ports to some off the wall values, and never changed them back (I'm in Windows, right now, and it is painful to exit out, boot into BSD, and then back). The rest of the pccard.conf values are the default ones from FBSD4.2-R, including the following entry for the wavelan card: # Lucent WaveLAN/IEEE card "Lucent Technologies" "WaveLAN/IEEE" config 0x1 "wi" ? insert /etc/pccard_ether $device start remove /etc/pccard_ether $device stop Stripped down version of the dmesg output is as follows, including the pccardd errors (which weren't put into the dmesg): Copyright (c) 1992-2000 The FreeBSD Project.
