I agree with this view. In attempting to get FreeBSD and Gnome running on a late-model Fujitsu laptop I have discovered many obscure settings which are necessary for a good result. (Just yesterday I discovered that powerd will allow my CPU speed to throttle automatically, thus extending battery life.) I want FreeBSD to become widely used on desktops and laptops, and for that to happen the developers must make configuration easier and smarter. I am not saying that this solution is the best. What I support is making it automatic so that people do not keep stepping on this bug.
