Sorry, you are right. I quick read the man page and thought it was
there. Now I can't find it, but I saw it somewhere (on a mailing list
maybe?). 

I can't test it right now, but seem to recall that Sun's syslog behaves
the same (or maybe I've been using FreeBSD's for quite a long time now).
