Hello, I'm trying to set up my printer with the help of "The Complete
FreeBSD", and I'm having some problems.

I've come so far that I have configured the /etc/printcap and compiled
and stored the /cdrom/book/scripts/lpfilter.c in
/usr/local/libexec/lpfilter

when I got this far I tried the lptest 20 5 | lpr command and the
staircase effect appered. I tried to fix it, firts by adding the lines

#!/bin/sh
printf "\033&k2G" && cat && printf "\f" && exit 0
exit 2

in the /usr/local/libexec/lpfilter

but then The paper just came out blank. So I tried removing the rest
(all but the above) from lpfilter, adn then I tried again, still blank
paper. So I restored it to the original but now there was no text, not
even the staircase!

Now when I try to print (I've been messing with the files for some time
now), I get this error message:

#Apr 15 00:13:25 angrenost lpd[373]: /dev/lp: No such file or directory
Apr 15 00:13:25 angrenost lpd[373]: /dev/lp: No such file or directory

And the printer doesn't print anything (of course).

I've checked the printer (font samples), and It prints nicely by itself.
So the printers ok.

I'll send along my printcap and my lpfilter so that you can have a look
at it.

#
# This enables a simple local "raw" printer, hooked up to the first
# parallel port. No kind of filtering is done, so everything you
# pass to the "lpr" command will be printed unmodified.
#
# Remember, for further print queues you're going to add, you have to
# chose different spool directories (the "sd" capability below),
# otherwise you will greatly confuse lpd.
#
# For some advanced printing, have a look at the "apsfilter" package.
# It plugs into the lpd system, allowing you to print a variety of
# different file types by converting everything to PostScript(tm)
# format. If you don't have a PostScript(tm) printer, don't panic,
# but do also install the "ghostscript" package.
#
# Do also refer to section 7 (Printing) of the handbook. A local copy
# can be found under /usr/share/doc/handbook/handbook.{html,latin1}.
#
# Banner pages are now suppressed by default. Remove the :sh:
# capability to turn them back on.
