I've come so far that I have configured the /etc/printcap and compiled and stored the /cdrom/book/scripts/lpfilter.c in /usr/local/libexec/lpfilter when I got this far I tried the lptest 20 5 | lpr command and the staircase effect appered. I tried to fix it, firts by adding the lines #!/bin/sh printf "\033&k2G" && cat && printf "\f" && exit 0 exit 2 in the /usr/local/libexec/lpfilter but then The paper just came out blank. So I tried removing the rest (all but the above) from lpfilter, adn then I tried again, still blank paper. So I restored it to the original but now there was no text, not even the staircase! Now when I try to print (I've been messing with the files for some time now), I get this error message: #Apr 15 00:13:25 angrenost lpd[373]: /dev/lp: No such file or directory Apr 15 00:13:25 angrenost lpd[373]: /dev/lp: No such file or directory And the printer doesn't print anything (of course). I've checked the printer (font samples), and It prints nicely by itself. So the printers ok.
