The Apache-fp port makes sure that your system has the descrypt libraries installed (DES is available from ftp.freebsd.org (US/CA), or internat.freebsd.org for international version). The Apache-fp port uses the BSDI 3.0 extentions. I haven't had a single crash with the frontpage extentions.
