Anyone knows a fix to this? A problem very similar to (maybe the same as?) this was fixed in revision 1.444 of ports/Mk/bsd.port.mk. It wasn't a part of the 4.8-RC2 snapshot but it's included in the ports tree tagged for 4.8-RELEASE.
