Like = the OP said, the radeon driver isn't an option (building x11-drivers/xf86-video= -ati says "xf86-video-ati-7.5.0,1 is only for i386 amd64, while you are running powerpc"), so I'm basically left with the vesa driver (or maybe fbdev? which doesn't work either; that one says "Module fbdevhw does not have a fbdevhwModuleData data object").
