If the drivers are brought into the FreeBSD source tree, which is probably a good idea so that they can be distributed with the base system, it'd probably be best to start with the re-worked Linux drivers as a base. For this to work, someone would need to make sure that updates are fed in both directions. FWIW, the re-worked Linux drivers should be brought in the the XFree86 CVS trunk soon.
