 Your problem is likely the version of FreeBSD you're running... it
wouldn't be pre-2.2.1 would it?

 I'm running a 2.2.1 variant; the ns-install worked fine; and except
for some older X11 library problems (which don't seem to do more than
cause some messages); things work great!
