The reason seems to be the version of the aic7xxx driver. It seems that version 5.0.19 is quite good but version 5.1.2 and upper crashes the system. If I use the new version of aic7xxx, I can boot the system up. But then, if I try to make operations using the aic7xxx driver and the harddisk, the kernel cashes with traps und cryptic error messages. Trying to install the new Redhat-5.2 with aic7xxx version 5.1.2 (this is the default version of the kernel 2.0.36 on the boot disk of RH-5.2) the systems crashes while accessing the disk; sometimes it happens while formatting the swap space and sometimes while formatting harddisk partitions. If I use the check-option "mke2fs -c ...". This happens immediately!!! My box has two Adaptec 2940UW controllers. One controller is a real 2940UW controller (bios version 1.32), this is where the harddrive is connected, and the other is a onboard controller AIC-7880 on the ASUS T2P4S mainboard (bios version 1.26). Any help is appreciated!
