It cannot be disabled. Disabling the device driver in kernel configuration before booting does not prevent the probe from executing. 2. It thinks that the SoundBlaster 16 is a misconfigured AdvanSys HBA. (Result: the probe fails). NOTE: This machine does not have an AdvanSys HBA. NOTE: On the same machine, 3.3-R GENERIC doesn't have either of these problems. I don't know in what release the problems first appeared. >How-To-Repeat: Boot the machine using the 4.1-R kernel and mfsroot floppies. Go into full-screen kernel configuration. Disable all non-present devices, including AdvanSys. Save settings. Exit kernel configuration and proceed with boot. Observe console output.
