Indeed, this section was enough to get X to use that driver and it seems to work and even be usable for now. To see anyhing more than 800x600, I had to set efi_max_resolution="1920x1080" in /boot/loader.conf. Using Darktable, I can see that zooming in and moving the image is a bit unpleasant, in that updates are more sluggish. Apart from that, so far this seems to be usable.
