Take a look at: http://www.marcuscom.com/gnome/docs/faq2.html#q4 As I mention in the doc, once you have GNOME 2.0 installed, trying to upgrade certain GNOME applications may cause GNOME 1.4 to overwrite GNOME 2.0. This is being worked on in the bsd.gnomeng.mk project. This doc will be committed to the FreeBSD web site after it's had some shakedown time.
