I seem to remember DEC had a patent or something on LAT. I've been out of there for 10 years -- but I could check with friends. I seem to remember they had Bell Atlantic being the Licensing Agent. I really liked the efficiency of LAT and I wished they would've made it an open standard. At one time they had a bootable lat disk (floppy) which turned PDP11's with 64 or so ports into a nice (and now very cheap) terminal server.
