I installed FreeBSD 2.2.2, yesterday. I have looked at rc.conf
several times and made a couple of changes, with vi.

Now, looking at rc.conf, I see the comments at the end of the
assignment lines multiplied and a trailing " appended.

I looked at a different machine, with at most one change to rc.conf
and the comments were only doubled, not multiplied by 10

Anyone have ANY idea what can cause this?

For example: I think the line may be wrapped by the mailer.
