Sure. In fact, I find your points are mostly valid with respect to this bug report (https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=249252). The two nits I would point out: - FreeBSD's bugzilla automatically assigns the bug based on the port you put in the subject. Thus, the maintainer should have been automatically notified, right? - It's not often that we "users" are allowed to express what "should" go in anything. So most of us refrain. Regardless, I can provide counter examples. Here's a few of my ignored bug reports that seem to meet all your ad hoc requirements and yet are still ignored: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=262653 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=256507 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=255670 TWO of these even contain patches. I invite you to look at these and tell me what transgressions I committed such that these are ignored. Have I been rude somehow? > Just put yourself in the position of the people you > are asking to do work for you and help them to help you by making it easy > for them and not bitching at them. It really isn't much to ask when you're > talking to people who do this for the fun of it. Sure. I contend that it's also not asking much to take 1 minute to provide a one line response like "We are looking into this" or better "you formatted this wrong, here's what I need" even when you are providing a "fun" system which some people literally have to use as a necessity. Common courtesy goes a long way to alleviate angst. Attacking the angst and labelling it "rude" does not really accomplish anything in the general case (as your experience should tell you). Good communication is the cornerstone of anything we currently label as a "community". -- Dave Hayes - Consultant - LA CA, USA - dave@dream-tech.com >>>> *The opinions expressed above are entirely my own* <<<< Hint - Something we often drop but never stop to pick up.
