In order to run a remote xterm, the host you're logged into has to have a 
netowrk connection to your machine, or you have to run a program that 
makes it think it has a network connection.  running ppp is one way to 
get a network connection.  A way of making a system think it has a 
network connection is to use slirp.  Running a serial communications 
program like seyon or kermit alone is not sufficient, because there is no 
network connection.
