I think that's why it doesn't event try to use the Radeon driver: the configuration forces the VESA driver. Try to rebuild x11-servers/xorg-server and pay attention to configure flags maybe. If you're willing to dig more, look at the server code and find when it activates this built-in configuration. -- Jean-Sébastien Pédron
