Subject: AHA-2742T causes internal error: driver 5.1.2 on DEC Prioris server

Here's a real winner of a problem. Using the boot disk for Debian 2.0 that was
contributed by haphazard@socketis.net and posted at FTP.REDHAT.COM, the boot
fails with the error message "BUG! Driver accessed chip without first pausing
controller!" in an endless loop. The boot disk is documented to contain the
2.0.35 kernel patched with the 5.1.2 driver.

The hardware is a DEC Prioris 5166DP (dual-processor) server with both EISA and
PCI. The SCSI controller is an EISA AHA-2742T with a single Micropolis hard
drive on it. The machine has neither PCI SCSI controllers nor any IDE
controllers. The EISA config utilities work correctly, and the machine BIOS
has been updated to the latest 2.12 from DEC.

Any ideas or suggestions?

P.S. Doug: FTP.REDHAT.COM is very hard to access, as it seems to be terribly
busy and denies anonymous login nearly all of the time.
