I did so this afternoon and noticed that xmms audio output "machine-gunned" twice, each less than a second, during insertion. I initially thought it was just the interaction between the pccard beeps and the music. However, I then fired up dstumbler and it "machine-gunned" for a fraction of a second, about once per second while dstumbler was running. So I went looking and the it appears the whole machine pauses once per second while dstumbler does whatever it does with the wi card. The pause, and associated "machine-gunning", on removal of the card is between two and six seconds long. I haven't noticed any machine pausing before. This doesn't seem to happen as often with my Orinoco Silver, but it does happen, especially at removal and when dstumbler starts and stops. I haven't used the wi cards in a couple of weeks. Below is dmesg from my attemped use of the cards this afternoon. pcic1: Event mask 0x6 pcic1: Autodetected 5.0V card pcic1: Event mask 0x8 pccard: card inserted, slot 1 pcic1: reset 1 int is 10 stat is ff pcic1: reset 2 int is 70 stat is cd pcic1: reset 3 int is 70 stat is ed pccard1: Assigning wi0: io 0x240-0x27f irq 11 mem 0x0-0xffffffff pcic: I/O win 0 flags 15 240-27f wi0: Forcing IRQ to 11 pcic: I/O win 0 flags 5 240-27f wi0 at port 0x240-0x27f irq 11 flags 0x10000 slot 1 on pccard1 pcic: I/O win 0 flags 15 240-27f wi0: Forcing IRQ to 11 wi0: 802.11 address: 00:30:ab:0f:42:32 wi0: using RF:PRISM2 MAC:HFA3841 CARD:HWB3163 rev.A wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary 0.03.00, Station 0.08.03 wi0: wi_has_wep = 1 bpf: wi0 attached pcic1: Event mask 0xe wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status ffff wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status ffff wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status ffff pcic: I/O win 0 flags 5 240-27f wi0: detached pccard: card removed, slot 1 pcic1: Event mask 0x6 Connection attempt to TCP ::0001:25 from ::0001:1767 pcic1: Autodetected 5.0V card pcic1: Event mask 0x8 pccard: card inserted, slot 1 pcic1: reset 1 int is 10 stat is ff pcic1: reset 2 int is 70 stat is cf pcic1: reset 3 int is 70 stat is ef pccard1: Assigning wi0: io 0x240-0x27f irq 11 mem 0x0-0xffffffff pcic: I/O win 0 flags 15 240-27f wi0: Forcing IRQ to 11 pcic: I/O win 0 flags 5 240-27f wi0 at port 0x240-0x27f irq 11 slot 1 on pccard1 pcic: I/O win 0 flags 15 240-27f wi0: Forcing IRQ to 11 wi0: 802.11 address: 00:02:2d:2a:25:37 wi0: using Lucent Technologies, WaveLAN/IEEE wi0: Lucent Firmware: Station 7.28.01 wi0: wi_has_wep = 1 bpf: wi0 attached pcic1: Event mask 0xe pcic1: Event mask 0x6 wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status ffff wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status ffff wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status ffff pcic: I/O win 0 flags 5 240-27f wi0: detached pccard: card removed, slot 1 Connection attempt to TCP ::0001:25 from ::0001:1773 pcic1: Event mask 0x6 pcic1: Autodetected 5.0V card pcic1: Event mask 0x8 pccard: card inserted, slot 1 pcic1: reset 1 int is 10 stat is ff pcic1: reset 2 int is 70 stat is cd pcic1: reset 3 int is 70 stat is ed pccard1: Assigning wi0: io 0x240-0x27f irq 11 mem 0x0-0xffffffff pcic: I/O win 0 flags 15 240-27f wi0: Forcing IRQ to 11 pcic: I/O win 0 flags 5 240-27f wi0 at port 0x240-0x27f irq 11 flags 0x10000 slot 1 on pccard1 pcic: I/O win 0 flags 15 240-27f wi0: Forcing IRQ to 11 wi0: 802.11 address: 00:30:ab:0f:42:32 wi0: using RF:PRISM2 MAC:HFA3841 CARD:HWB3163 rev.A wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary 0.03.00, Station 0.08.03 wi0: wi_has_wep = 1 bpf: wi0 attached pcic1: Event mask 0xe wi0: timeout in wi_seek to 124/0; last status ffff wi0: timeout in wi_seek to 124/44; last status ffff wi0: wi_cmd: busy bit won't clear. wi0: xmit failed wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status ffff wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status ffff wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status ffff pcic: I/O win 0 flags 5 240-27f wi0: detached pccard: card removed, slot 1 I last upgraded Friday, Aug 16: Starting update: Fri Aug 16 21:31:50 EDT 2002 Finished update: Fri Aug 16 21:38:57 EDT 2002 Starting buildworld: Fri Aug 16 21:38:57 EDT 2002 Finished buildworld: Fri Aug 16 22:41:27 EDT 2002 Starting buildkernel GENERIC: Fri Aug 16 22:41:27 EDT 2002 Finished buildkernel GENERIC: Fri Aug 16 22:54:01 EDT 2002 Starting buildkernel LAPTOP: Fri Aug 16 22:54:01 EDT 2002 Finished buildkernel LAPTOP: Fri Aug 16 23:05:06 EDT 2002 Starting installkernel: Fri Aug 16 23:05:06 EDT 2002 Finished installkernel: Fri Aug 16 23:05:30 EDT 2002 Starting installworld: Fri Aug 16 23:05:30 EDT 2002 Finished installworld: Fri Aug 16 23:11:46 EDT 2002 -- Scott Lambert KC5MLE Unix SysAdmin lambert@lambertfam.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message
