Why aren't serious problems like this reported in the 4.2 errata?  (The
term I've seen used here is "completely broken" for C++ threading.)

Why even *have* an errata if, as seems to be the case, RELEASE users are
expected to scan through zillions of messages in these mailing lists
to get the information that naive people like me would expect to get in
an errata listing?

I propose that the following be added to the 4.2 errata:

  "The use of multithreading with C++ programs is completely broken in 
   this release.  No fix or workaround is available at this time."
