I was going to point out that inetd doesn't use /etc/protocols, because it does not have to translate protocol names to protocol numbers. The tokens "tcp", "udp", ... used in inetd.conf are parsed by inetd as it has no need to know any protocol numbers. If this seems OK, then I'll leave the PR closed. David.
