Major au-contraire on that one, Jason - it's been "officially documented" in
a prominent location for years now:

  ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/index.html

That index.html file's URL also being referenced from several places at
www.freebsd.org which talk about mirroring.
