I have the same thing but, in my case, these are compiled into a custom
kernel :-(

imb@aaron:/home/imb> mbmon -c 1 -r
ioctl(smb0:open): No such file or directory
No Hardware Monitor found!!
InitMBInfo: Bad file descriptor
