Subject: Question about the packages INDEX files

Can anyone tell me (or is there any documentation describing) the
format of the INDEX files in the packages directories on the CDs?

I can see that there is one package name per line and the field
separator is ``|'' but the order of the entries in the file appear to
follow no pattern (i.e. not sorted).

What I plan to do is copy the whole of the packages dir from CD 1 to
/usr/packages and then create symlinks to all the packages on CD 3.
This will (hopefully) avoid the PITA caused by dependency packages
being on the other CD.

Can I just cat the 2 INDEX files together? or do they need sorting?

TIA
