Doesn't it make more sense to edit the new rc.conf down to > the minimum overrides for the defaults, rather than editing out that line? > The usual advice I see here (which I follow myself) is to simply copy any *lines* you wish to alter from /etc/defaults/rc.conf to /etc/rc.conf and edit them there (that's what sysinstall does when, for example, you use it to configure networking).
