Second, verify your backups are good. Third, boot the 2.2.8 floppy or CD and choose the upgrade option. I have upgraded many machines to various versions of FreeBSD, all successfully. I just received my 2.2.8 CDs, so I'll be trying it in the next week. I have no reason to assume it will not be successful (but I'll do backups anyway...).
