Hi there, I'm running into a problem (or problems?) in the installation process. I made myself a boot disk, and I'm trying to install FreeBSD on my 486 laptop, which is currently running no other OS or anything. I have a suspicion that the install program isn't finding my PCMCIA modem... When I go to the full-screen visual kernel configuration, there are 23 conflicts in the various devices. So, I delete all of them, then tab down to the 'add' field, and add device ze0, the 'IBM/National Semiconductor PCMCIA Ethernet Adaptor', as suggested in the FAQ. After I save the configuration, I get a screen with a list of the devices and whether they are detected or not, but ze0 scrolls past too quickly for me to see whether it is okay or not. I hope I'm explaining this correctly!! Then I go to the FreeBSD Disklabel editor and choose A, since I'm devoting the whole drive to BSD - it prompts me for a mount point for the partition, and I'm not sure what to enter here. I've been entering '/0' because it seems to accept this answer (stupid and wrong, I know). Then I get a message - "PP command started on VTY3, blah blah blah," so I hit Alt-F3 and get a new screen with the prompt "ppp ON> Warning: Can't create /var/run/tun0.pid: No such file or directory." So, I type "term" and get the prompt "Warning: Can't create /var/run/cuaa0.if: No such file or directory. Enter to terminal mode. Type "~?" for help." At which point I assume I would type "ATDT5974904" (my ISP's dial-in number) but the keyboard has frozen up and I have to do the old three-finger salute to reboot the machine. What am I doing wrong!??? I have the feeling it's something pretty dumb, but I don't know what. This is so frusterating.... : ( To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
