Without DEBUG I got this:

#0  0x0000000000605f71 in Fs::Ufs::UFSSwapDir::UFSSwapDir ()
[New Thread 84006400 (LWP 100348/squid)]
(gdb) bt
#0  0x0000000000605f71 in Fs::Ufs::UFSSwapDir::UFSSwapDir ()
#1  0x00000000005ff7c5 in Fs::Ufs::StoreFSufs<Fs::Ufs::UFSSwapDir>::createSwapDir ()
#2  0x00000000004bfdf2 in strtokFile ()
#3  0x00000000004aebdf in configFreeMemory ()
#4  0x00000000004ac79e in parseConfigFile ()
#5  0x000000000055510c in SquidMain ()
#6  0x000000000055499c in main ()

It crashed immediately on start-up. Nothing in cache.log. Like you, with DEBUG gdb crashes.

Cheers,
