Not only could meta-packages answer bloatist concerns that "an installed FreeBSD system is useless unless one adds 1001 extra packages", but they could provide increased flexibility. I believe bsd.port.mk could support meta-packages right now, but I think some extra mods to it could make the whole thing work quite well indeed.
