Subject: Can't access CD-ROM for audio
Message-ID: <200002181804.KAA26910@ptavv.es.net>

My CD (ATAPI-IDE) works fine for data, but I am unable to get it to
play audio. cdcontrol returns:

cdcontrol: no CD device name specified, defaulting to /dev/cd0c
cdcontrol: no disc in drive /dev/cd0c

while the KDE CD player generates the error:
CDROM read or access error.
Please make sure you have access permissions to:
/dev/matcd0c

The devices exist and are accessible, but the errors persist, even when
I run as root.

Is there some kernel option I could have over-looked or some other
incantation I missed?

Thanks for any clues!
