Thanks for the answer.
I've got
fvwm2 &
in xinitrc. That brings up fvwm without any functionality. I've also tried
fvwm &
exec fvwm2
exec fvwm
These don't start fvwm at all.
I can bring up twm, blackbox, and enlightenment with
<window manager name> &
in xinitrc and all three work fine. fvwm is the only one I can't get to work.
BTW, xinitrc is not a dot file on 4.3 RELEASE. At least, not on my copy.
