Then I suggest that you contact the libxml/libxml2 author and voice your concerns about the fact that these two pieces of software at present cannot coexist on the same machine. Making (substantial) local modifications to the libxml2 port, only to then rip them out again once libxml dies sounds like needless work, which should really be done by the author.
