me too, and never use things like gnome, kde etc.. anyway.
it doesn't offer anything more than "cool look" and fancy things like 
files dragged by mouse etc. etc.

for efficient graphics environment i would recommend just good window 
manager like fvwm2, icewm, <add more here>
