I guess you could say that everything that is in /usr/src is part of *base*, with all source code included, and all that is in /usr/ports is part of The Ports Collection (c). Also note that the ports collection doesn't usually carry the source code of the software in itself, but rather a framework of how to fetch compile and install that software, in opposition with the base system that doesn't need to fetch anything since the source code is already in there. > Does everything which is a port get installed in /usr/local?
